While training for my very first half-marathon in 2001, a wise man (aka Pete) once said “If Oprah can run a marathon, YOU can do it too!” After completing the race and returning to work the next week, I mysteriously received some beautiful flowers and the card read: “You make me proud! Love, Oprah.”
Although Pete still claims that “Oprah” sent me the flowers---it was shortly after that the long distance phone calls began!
Fast forward 10 years, I decided to run my 2nd half-marathon which took place this past Saturday. It was freezing 32 degrees and drizzling rain while we waited for the race to begin:
My friend, Melissa and I ran most of the race together:
And I completed the race 5 minutes faster than I did it 10 years ago! Not bad for being 10 years older, having 2 babies and no time on my hands limited training time! It was a fun race and I did it in honor of some special people that have been impacted by breast cancer:
My Aunt Sandy, who just turned 70!
And my Mom—who faced breast cancer with three young children and praise God, she has lived to tell about it!
AND…Oprah sent me some beautiful flowers again!
That Oprah really is thoughtful!
